Witness 23: Amina Akter

Testimony of Amina Akter

My name is Amina Akter. I am 20 years old and a first-year student in the Economics Department at Laxmipur Government College. Although the nationwide anti-discrimination movement had started earlier, our movement in Laxmipur began on 18 July 2024. On 15 July, when I heard that the Prime Minister had referred to the protesters as “descendants of Rajakars,” and on 16 July when Abu Saeedi was killed in Rangpur, our movement intensified. After that, I regularly participated in the protests.

On 29 July, around 10:00 a.m., we gathered in front of the Upazila Parishad at Bagbari Mor. At that time, police and Awami League Jubo League workers attacked us, and we were forced to disperse. Then, on 4 August, at 8:00 a.m., I left home and gathered at Bagbari, from where we moved to Jhumur Chottor by 9:00 a.m. and continued our march until 12:00 p.m.

At that time, from the direction of Madam Bridge, 120–130 armed Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League workers advanced toward us while firing. About 30–40 of us moved toward Madam Bridge, and from the opposite direction, Chhatra League opened fire. One person was shot and fell. Later, I learned his name was Sad Al Afnan.

The Awami League attackers chased me, caught me, and started beating me. Two unidentified protesters rescued me and took me to the hospital, where I received treatment for two days. After returning home, I learned that 4–5 more people had been killed that day and over 200 others were injured.

I hold former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and the Police Chief responsible for this incident. Through social media, I learned that Sheikh Hasina had ordered the shooting of student protesters. I saw in a video that a police officer showed a mobile video to the Home Minister and Police Chief, saying that if one person is killed, the others would leave; otherwise, they would not.

The investigating officer questioned me, and this is my statement.

Cross-examination:

It is not true that I am a descendant of a Rajakar.

It is not true that Sheikh Hasina did not call the protesters “descendants of Rajakars.”

It is not true that  what i said today about the killing of Abu Sayed in Rangpur intensified

The movement in our area is a lie as I did not tell the investigating officer this.

I have not submitted my hospital treatment certificate to the Tribunal today.

It is not true that Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal are not responsible.

I am not affiliated with any ideology.
