Trial of Sheikh Hasina and others
Court 1 Case no 2/2025 Trial Day 7 20th Aug 2025 Back to Trial page
Witness 15: Dr. Hasanul Panna
Testimony of Dr. Hasanul Panna
My name is Dr. Hasanul Panna. I am 43 years old and have been working as an Associate Professor in the Surgery Department at Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital, Kallyanpur, since 2019.
During the revolutionary movement in July 2024, I provided medical treatment to numerous injured students and civilians on 18–20 July and on 2, 3, 4, and 5 August, as well as in the days following.
From the afternoon of 18 July, many injured people came to our hospital, and we began providing treatment, with several requiring surgery. After the evening of 18 July, police and local armed groups came to the hospital, obstructing treatment and prohibiting patient admissions. They checked the patient admission register and took the list of patients with them.
From the morning of 19 July, local members of the Jubo League and Awami League sat in the hospital all day with chairs, not allowing any patients to enter.
Our hospital staff, including technologist Mitur’s husband Shaheed Mostakim Billah of Inova Diagnostic Center, admitted a patient with a gunshot wound to the head in Mirpur-10 through the back door. An urgent neurosurgery operation was needed, and an ambulance was sent to bring a neurosurgeon. However, the attackers later diverted him to Neurosciences Hospital by an alternate route. When he could not be admitted there, he was taken to the Ibn Sina Dhanmondi branch, where he died.
From 18 July to 5 August, we provided concealed medical treatment to gunshot patients under different names and diagnoses. To avoid police surveillance, we treated patients not in the general ward but in post-operative and ICU areas.
For these events, I hold the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Minister Obaidul Quader responsible. As a physician, I seek fair and proper justice.
The Investigating Officer has interrogated me. This is my testimony.
