Trial of Sheikh Hasina and others
Court 1 Case no 2/2025 Trial Day 14 8th Sept 2025 Back to Trial page
Witness 37: Mohammad Hasan
Evidence given by Mohammad Hasan
My name is Mohammad Hasan. My current age is approximately 21 years. My address: Village: XXX District: Cox’s Bazar. Current Address: XXX District: Chattogram.
I am a second-year Honors student in the Department of Political Science at Chattogram College.
From 09-07-2024 AD, I participated in the Quota Reform Movement in the Chattogram Tiger Pass area. At various times, I participated in the movement at various places including Muradpur, Notun Bridge, and Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar.
On 16-07-2024 AD at approximately 2:00 PM, 10 friends including myself went from my residence at Bahaddarhat to Muradpur to participate in the movement. As soon as we got off the bus there, under the leadership of Jubo League leader Nurul Azim Roni, Jubo League leader Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, Shaibal Das Sumon, former Mayor A.J.M. Nasir, and many others started shooting, targeting us. There was a pistol in the hand of Nurul Azim Roni, a shotgun in the hand of Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, and local weapons in the hands of others. We became scattered. A group of protesters moved towards Sholashahar, and a few of us got trapped in a lane in Mohammadpur. We took shelter in a house. Then, through a protester named Anowar, we came to know that a protester named Faisal Ahmed Shanto was killed by the attackers’ bullets in the Muradpur area. Faisal Ahmed Shanto was previously known to me.
While staying at that house, I came to know through Mohsin College coordinator Bappi Bhai that the said terrorists hacked a protester named Wasim Akram on Muradpur road and shot and killed a carpenter named Faruq. In the evening, we left that house and went to our own homes. That same night, I went to Chattogram Medical College Hospital to see the dead body of Faisal Ahmed Shanto. When the police and hospital authorities did not allow us to see the body, we returned.
On 18-07-2024 AD at approximately 10:00 AM, 5/6 friends including myself participated in the movement in the Chattogram Notun Bridge area. There was a sit-in program there. Approximately two thousand protesters were protesting there. In front of us were the police from Bakulia and Karnaphuli Police Stations, and behind them were leaders and activists of the Awami League. When the police fired sound grenades and tear shells targeting us, we became dispersed. A few of us went towards a nearby filling station. When the police and members of the Awami League fired with shotguns targeting us, I was shot in the back. A total of 11 bullets (pellets) hit my back. I took treatment at Parkview Hospital. There, doctors removed 8 shotgun bullets from my body. 3 bullets still remain in my body. (At this stage, the witness shows the tribunal the scar of the bullet wound on his back).
After being shot, when I was first being taken to Chattogram Medical for treatment by ambulance, Chhatra League, Jubo League, and Police obstructed entry at the hospital gate. Subsequently, I went to Parkview Hospital by rickshaw.
For this murder and torture, the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Police Chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Chattogram Police Commissioner, other police officials, and local leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League are responsible.
After giving my deposition to the investigating officer, I came to know through various media including Al Jazeera and BBC that Sheikh Hasina ordered the use of lethal weapons to kill the protesters.
I demand lawful punishment for the guilty. This is my deposition.
